The Hellblazers receive word from Rishaal the Page-Turner, the dragonborn proprietor of Book Wyrm’s Treasures, that a gnome had been seeking buyers of a supposed artifact that might very well be the Stone of Golorr that everyone seems to be trying to get their hands on. Rishaal heard through his contacts in the seedy underground of black market entrepreneurs, that the Stone would be up for sale during the Beltane Fire Festival.

IMG_1497The Festival is awash in revelers so the Hellblazers spread out, eyes peeled for a gnome that fits the dragonborn’s description. Braxton spots their prey and the party converges on a tent that the diminutive one has entered.

Abraxas overhears someone speaking harshly with the gnome, demanding to know where the Stone is, but the gnome doesn’t remember. As the gnome screams out, the party rushes toward the tent, but two other shadowy figures who had been spying on the gnome as well, arrive first.

Abraxas bursts into the tent to discover the gnome has had his hand severed off. The wizard commands that all present bow before him. All save the dual-wielding rogue comply who chooses to escape out the back of the tent.

Akkamas enters the tent and gathers the gnome, taking him outside, where Braxton heals the wounded creature. The bloody stump sealed, Akkamas keeps the gnome talking, plying him with alcohol to keep his tongue loose, gathering as much information as he can. He learns that the rogue is an agent of Xanathar and the Guild knows that a gnome has the Stone of Golorr that was stolen from them recently. Akkamas also learns that the gnome, Furlong, is working for his Uncle Xoblob, proprietor of the Olde Xoblob Shoppe.

Meanwhile, while the rest of the party pursues the fleeing Xanathar Agent, Kelwyn spies a woman keeping an eye on them. Approaching her, she reveals that she’s a member of Force Grey. She joins their pursuit.

Cornered, the rogue fends off the Hellblazers‘ attack, but seeing the tide quickly turn, escapes into a burning tent, the product of an errant flame spell cast by Jone. Tim spies the rogue performing some kind of blood magic, so Toman brings the burning tent down on top of him.

Unharmed by the flames, the rogue continues to try and cast his spell. Jone disrupts him by attempting to grapple him, but is cast aside. Braxton, Tim, and Kelwyn close in while Abraxas extinguishes the fire. While the three harry the rogue, Toman swoops in and delivers a savage and killing strike, ending the Xanathar Agent‘s attempts to escape.

Akkamas sends word that they are looking for Xoblob. While the party returns to gather up their warlock compatriot and his “prisoner”, Abraxas sends Littlecrow in search of Xoblob‘s tent.

Littlecrow, invisibly searching the various tents outside the Big Top, eventually finds the gnome businessman, sending word to the wizard. Gazing through his familiar’s eyes, Abraxas sees Xoblob turn, staring menacingly at Littlecrow. The gnome changes form before them, revealing his true form to the familiar — that of a Beholder. Littlecrow cries out, then Abraxas loses contact with his fiendish ally.

And thus our 6th Annual Hallowe’en Game came to a close. Two of the seven came in ‘player character attire’, earning them a bonus level. I really appreciated both Connor and Aaron making the effort. I suspect next year’s game will see the whole crew dress accordingly, even those playing via long distance.

From our table to yours, the Oak Hill RPG Club would like to wish you all a Happy Hallowe’en.
