The Hellblazers made their way deeper into Undermountain, traversing a narrow, crumbling stair. Tim disarmed the trapped door and slinked into a large chamber where three orcs and a goblin were gathered in conversation. The rest of the party filtered in, careful not to disturb the creatures.

Abraxas probed their minds, learning that they feared “the white lady and her one-eyed drow“. Furthermore, the orcs revealed that “the white lady” had made three trips into Undermountain, each time bringing different groups of followers and setting them to differing tasks.

Akkamas and Kelwyn made their way around the walled area to the north, discovering a fourth orc. They made short work of the beast, but this alerted the others to the party’s intrusion.

An all-out battle ensued with the Hellblazers working well and in concert for a change.

Perhaps the biggest threat was a goblin shaman who joined the fray with goblin archer support. Another challenge came in the form of Trol’nald Drumpf, a half-troll/ogre armed with a magical morning star.

The entire party operated as a well-oiled machine, each utilizing their strengths and complimenting their companions. Abraxas made great use of Counterspell and helped keep their opponents off balance. Akkamas used spells and the Sword of Kas to devastating effect. Braxton was a tank, engaging the enemy with his great sword and cantrips. Jone was stalwart and sly, focusing his attention of Drumpf. Kelwyn also kept after the trollkin, bringing a fiery assault. Tim peppered the enemy with arrows before wading in with his magical blade. And Wilbough eliminated the goblin shaman while Arianna kept everyone standing through well-balanced healing distribution.

With the entry level secured, the party moved north, with Tim taking note of a “throne room” occupied by an orc shaman, two orc champions, and two goblin archers. He warned the others and they gathered, prepared for battle.

Meanwhile the orc shaman set his minions to task. One champion went west, while the other and the two goblins secured the north door. The shaman then cast a wall of ice to block off their chamber.

vecnaCurious, upon urging from Abraxas, Akkamas addressed the demon bonded with his magical blade, asking the current whereabouts of Vecna. It responded, “1800 yards down, 600 yards down, and 100 feet to the northwest”. Could Ocasta, in possession of the Hand of Vecna, be behind the door being guarded by the champion orc?

The Hellblazers mobilized. After a couple of thwarted attempts, Kelwyn was able to dispel the magical barrier. As it dropped, Tim leveled a critical strike on the shaman and the  rest of the party followed suit, quickly eliminating the north door sentries.

Investigating the door, the party discovered it guarded by a glyph of warding. Despite being so close to Ocasta, they decided to take a short rest so that Kelwyn could regain the ability to dispel the glyph and the rest could heal up. Besides, the rooms behind them were littered with treasure and plenty of dead to loot…
