Time & Time & Time Again
Abraxas Silvermane and Stigandr (Connor), *Akkamas Mohaïva and Tiefling Monk (Mike), *Braxton Chabbone and Kyrian (Steve), *Jone Constance (Aaron), *Kelwyn (Rodney), & **Tim (Shaun)
The surviving heroes of The Hellblazers and The Highwayman’s Lute stand over the corpses of their fallen comrades when one of them bolts up from the dead, glassy eyed and ashen fleshed. Abraxas rises and informs that he has been released from the afterlife to see Tiamat vanquished, that there will be no rest for him until she is felled.
Akkamas gathered the Wand of Orcus from Tim and spent time attuning to it while the rest plotted their next course. The warlock then used the arcane wand to raise Braxton up from the dead, then, with a firm plan in mind, both parties were transported through the corridors of time, back to the field of battle, outside the ruins of once great Korum.
There, once more they were heralded as heroes of the hour by Adair Silvermane and his entourage. This time, however, they did not attack Vecna. No, not yet. They conversed with Malhavok and came clean and the wizard agreed to arrange a meeting with the Whispered One in the Korum Boneyard.
A short time passed and the heroes gathered, finally facing (again) the future lich in the yawning lawn of the dead. Battle ensued, with decimating precision and a great conflagration of magical and martial prowess. Vecna was felled easily, in the end, but a surprise awaited.
From the sorcerer’s corpse arose a black ooze, an extradimensional creature called a Xagyg. Stigandr sliced off a portion, but it quickly engulfed his hand and, despite his protests, it was quickly hacked free by Kelwyn. Akkamas captured the sliver into his magic flask, but Abraxas had plans for the greater beast.
As Kyrian recalled the creature’s origins, and its connection to powerful magic-users, Abraxas attempted to bond with the Xagyg. This did not go over well with the party, who were quick to pounce on their wizard, expelling the creature and banishing it, but not before Abraxas learned its tongue.
Kelwyn burned Vecna’s body and they bid Malhavok farewell, passing back through time, hopefully to a timeline made right by their actions.
Both groups appeared in Waterdeep, outside Trollskull Manor. They opened the door to find robust sales underway, all under the watchful gaze of Pennyworth, their manager and butler.
Wondering after Ziyal’s ghost, Jone reached out to her, but the living and breathing version arrived around the corner. No longer among the unliving, he was left wonder what spirit might be attached to him in her stead.
A long hiatus from play due to surgery, it was good to be back in the saddle, even if it was just online. Still, and end to the Vecna thread closes another door. What awaits our heroes moving forward? Only time will tell…
